Out of many applicant companies, Arboair gets approved funding by Vinnova for a project within the announcement “Advanced and Innovative Digitalization 2022” in collaboration with Holmen and AI Sweden. The aim of the project is to develop a platform for an end-to-end AI for forest analysis and synthetic digital twins of the forest.

Together with Holmen and AI Sweden, Arboair is very honored and excited to announce the funding from Vinnova. This will enable a radical contribution to the forest companies’ increased competitiveness through streamlining forestry while strengthening the Swedish companies’ competitiveness in the global market in a sustainable way.

Today, many forest owners lack data on their forests on a more detailed level. However, forestry could be carried out more profitably and, most importantly, more sustainable if we had high-quality, digital documentation of the forests’ current condition. Arboair uses AI-driven image analysis to produce a vital basis for the forest owners’ decision-making. To do this, we use the most advanced technologies to achieve high precision and the development of the world’s most advanced AI platforms for forests.

Holmen is one of Sweden’s largest forest owners and the forest is used actively and sustainably, allowing it to grow optimally and provide the best raw material. In the long term, Holmen takes responsibility for the forest’s cycle and protects the biological diversity. AI Sweden is the Swedish national center for applied artificial intelligence. The mission is to accelerate the use of AI for the benefit of Swedish society, competitiveness, and everyone living in Sweden. We are very happy to be working with these two companies, to contribute to a more sustainable future.

The aim of the project is to develop a platform for an end-to-end AI for forest analysis and synthetic digital twins of the forest. This creates conditions for the internationalization of end-to-end AI for high-resolution analysis of forest data for need-based areas of use. The project breaks new ground and will contribute with knowledge that was missing before.

The value of the project will be that the forest industry can evaluate between optimizing to secure higher economic profitability while at the same time setting aside forest for carbon sequestration, securing carbon sinks in wood for industry, increasing biological diversity, and assisting with nature experiences for society.

The project has a clear sustainability profile, while at the same time contributing to more modern and efficient forestry with the help of innovative and advanced digitalized solutions.
